Many of the same wholesome foods that you eat to help your skin glow from the inside-out can also be used externally, as cleansers, moisturizers, and skin masks. These vitamins, minerals, and oils that nourish your body also nourish your skin. Below you’ll find recipes for a variety of skincare products that you can make at home with a few simple ingredients. Make them for yourself or even give them as gifts by reusing jars or bottles.
1. Honey Mask.
2 teaspoons Raw Honey
2 teaspoons plain Whole Milk Yogurt
4 teaspoons Argan Exfoliating Cleansing Powder
Mix ingredients in a small bowl until smooth. Spread the mixture over face and let sit for 10-25 minutes. Remove with warm cloth or gently wash off with water while working the mask into skin for added physical exfoliation. Add more of less of any ingredient to customize the mask to your desired consistency.
2. Lip Gloss.
1 teaspoon paraffin wax
4 teaspoons coconut oil
4 teaspoons petroleum jelly
4 white or pink (or whatever color you like) candy melts
1/2 teaspoon oil-based candy flavoring
1 ziploc freezer bag
Grate the wax into a ziploc freezer bag. Add the coconut oil, petroleum jelly, candy melts and the flavoring. Place the bag in a bowl of very hot water and allow the ingredients to melt together. Massage the bag a bit to mix the ingredients together. Snip a corner from the bag and squeeze the ingredients into small containers. Pop your lip gloss containers into the fridge to cool completely.
3. Shaving Cream
1/3 cup Coconut Oil
1/3 cup Shea Butter
1/4 cup Olive Oil
Start by melting the shea butter and the coconut oil on a low heat on the stove top. Once it’s melted, pour into a container and add in the olive oil and stir. Set this mixture in the fridge and let it harden. Once it’s solid again you can take it out of the fridge and put it into a bowl that you can whip it in. Whip it for about 3 minutes or you can do it until it’s light and creamy. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark area when not in use. This could be used for shaving for men or women.
4. Ginger & Coconut Body Scrub
1/4 cup coconut oil
1 tablespoon ginger, coarsely chopped
1/4 cup cold-pressed oil (tea seed, jojoba, sunflower, or almond oil)
3/4 cup granulated or turbinado sugar
1/4 cup kosher salt
1-4 drops essential oil (I used lemongrass)
In a small saucepan over low heat heat the coconut oil and ginger pieces. Continue heating for 5-10 minutes until ginger scent and juice has transferred into the oil. Remove from heat and press through a fine mesh sieve or through a coffee filter.
While the oil is still warm, mix together with cold-pressed oil. Stir to combine and allow to come to room temperature. Stir in sugar and salt. Scent with essential oils as desired. Pack into a container.
5. Turmeric & Argan Oil Moisturizer
100% Pure Argan oil
